While she has remained silent for some time, Kesha spoke up during a live show in Philadelphia about the Dr. Luke lawsuit she has been embroiled with since 2014. The singer’s suit against Dr. Luke asserts that he has drugged, raped and psychologically abused her for years before her breakout hit “Tik Tok” in 2010. The producer has repeatedly denied the charges against him.
The show in Philadelphia was to support the Americas for Responsible Solutions PAC group lead by Gabby Giffords. The former Congresswoman fell victim to an attempted assassination back in 2011, and Kesha also gave some thoughts on gun violence.
“I feel like if you’re a human being, you go through pain,” Kesha said onstage. “And you go through hurt. And every single one of us knows that emotion. I don’t know if you guys know what I am going through. I’m going through a lawsuit. It’s f*cking horrible.”
Huffington Post reported that the singer said that although our nation cannot control pain, “we can control who we give the f*cking weapons to… I think the universe is screaming at us that there needs to be a change and we have to f*cking listen… I do think love is something as humans we all have and I hope heals us. I really believe that love and empathy, it can heal us.”
Dr. Luke also recently spoke out on the legal battle and is suing Kesha’s mother, Pebe Sebert, a second time for libel. He cited an interview that Sebert gave to Billboard this past March as the reason. The producer filed court documents this past Wednesday (Sept. 7) through the Middle Tennessee Federal Court. A previous lawsuit had been filed against Sebert in both New York and Tennessee.
