Coolio was arrested for reportedly possessing a loaded weapon at Los Angeles International Airport this past Saturday (Sept. 17) but told fans that “everything’s fine” shortly after.
TMZ got their hands on live footage of Coolio being handcuffed at the airport by a police officer following an attempt to sneak the weapon through security checks. According to the site, the gun was found during an X-ray screening of one of his carry-on bags.
According to the Los Angeles Daily News, LAX officers were called to Terminal 3 at 10:50 a.m. when the prohibited item was found.
Airport police officer Alicia Hernandez said in a statement, “Upon arrival airport police immediately took possession of the carry-on bag in the the X-Ray screening. They also detained a 39-year-old man who claimed to own the bag.”
When the weapon was first discovered, his bodyguard claimed that the gun was his, until Coolio admitted the truth. The rapper was later booked at a local police station, and his bail was reported as being $37,808. His bodyguard was released without consequence.
After he was released on bail, the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper posted a video to YouTube to assure fans that he was fine, and referred to the incident at the airport as a “misunderstanding,” thanking fans for their support.
“Everything’s fine. I’m fine,” the rapper said. “As you can see, I’m at P.F. Chang’s having a meal and having a few drinks. I mean, I don’t know what’s gonna be the result of this in the future, but for now, I’m fine and I appreciate everyone’s concerns.”
