Spotify has released its third annual 25 under 25 list for the artists they peg to be the most influential in the music industry right now. Topping that list is Shawn Mendes, who released his second studio album Illuminate in September and has had global success with Stiches and various singles. Ariana Grande, Chance The Rapper, Martin Garrix, Justin Bieber and Alessia Cara follow him.
The list was compiled using data from Spotify including how often people listen to that artist each month, how many songs that artist has in top Spotify playlists and the top performing artists by genre.
Other names on the list include Flume at 10, Tory Lanez at 13, DNCE at 15, Desiigner at 17, Selena Gomez at 18, Nothing But Thieves at 21 and Daya coming in at 25.
"With so many young listeners on Spotify, it's always fascinating to hone in on the peer artists they're listening to and looking up to," said Shanon Cook, Spotify's Digital Trends Expert in a statement. "It seems there are more musicians than ever under the age of 25 who are doing well, and while it's always good to see returning stars like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Rae Sremmurd, this year's list also highlights newcomers like singer-songwriter Joel Adams and alt-rock band Nothing But Thieves, whose tracks are really engaging listeners and gaining traction in popular playlists."
Year to year the list will obviously have some turnover when artists mature or have big releases, but there are a few constants. Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber and Fifth Harmony are all holdovers from 2015.
