Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik have released their new song “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” from the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack. Swift shared the song artwork, as well as a snippet of the song to her Instagram accounts just before midnight last night.
The song is a true collaboration, and the two even alternate lines, with Swift singing (“Baby, baby, I feel crazy/Up all night, all night and every day/Give me something, oh, but you say nothing/What is happening tonight?”) Then Malik comes in on (“I don’t wanna live forever/‘Cause I know I’ll be living in pain.”)
Both sing in a high-pitched falsetto that belies the emotional pain of the characters the soundtrack was written for, and “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” is a surprise collaboration.
The song is Swift’s first release in 2016 and the first new music that she has dropped since smash hit album 1989. “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” is also the first single from the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, which will be released on Feb. 10 via Republic Records. The movie is slated for release on Valentine's Day 2017.
Billboard reports that the song was written by Swift, Jack Antonoff and Sam Dew. Antonoff produced the track, which is now available for download here on iTunes.
