It has been exactly two years since Joey Bada$$, real name Jo-Vaugh Virginie Scott, released his debut studio album B4.DA.$$ and a lot has changed in the United States. The Brooklyn rapper recognizes that the country is entering a very different time and he has some new music to express his thoughts. His new single "Land Of The Free" comes on both the rapper's birthday (Jan. 20) and inauguration day for Donald Trump, whom Bada$$ takes the opportunity to rebuke.
On the funk new single, Scott takes aim not just at President Donald Trump, but also racism in the country, inequality and corruption.
"300 plus years of them cold shoulders / Yet 300 million of us still got no focus / Sorry America, but I will not be your soldier," he raps at the end of the first verse.
He continues with his takedown of Trump, "Obama just wasn't enough, I just need some more closure / And Donald Trump is not equipped to take this country over / Let's face facts cause what's the real motives."
He doesn't hold back on about he feels about how African-Americans are treated in this country in the hook with the line, "Three K's, Two A's in Amerikkka."
The second verse he targets the criminal justice system and the inequality in society.
"Trickery in the system, put my niggas in prison / All of our history hidden, ain't no liberty given / We all fit the description of what the documents written / We been lacking the vision and barely making a living / We too worried to fit in while they been benefitin," he raps.
