Neil Young Cancels Concert In Tel Aviv

Pitchfork reports that Neil Young & Crazy Horse have been forced to cancel their July 17 show at Hayarkon Park in Tel Aviv, Israel. According to The Jerusalem Post, the show's promoter Shuki Weiss revealed in a press release that, "The cancellation is due to the barrage of rockets that have been fired in recent days and concern for the safety of an audience for such an event."

A statement was issued by a spokesperson for Young concerning the situation, which reads:

"It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we must cancel our one and only Israeli concert due to tensions which have rendered the event unsafe at this time. We'll miss the opportunity to play for our fans and look forward to playing in Israel and Palestine in peace."

As a result of the cancellation, Young issued a statement revealing that he will be making donations to two music organizations in the region. His statement reads:

"I will be making donations to both the Louise & Tillie Alpert Youth Music Centre of Israel, and Heartbeat, two organizations that teach music to Palestinian and Israeli youth simultaneously by enabling them to play music together."

This cancellation comes just days after Pink Floyd's Roger Waters publicly urged Young to cancel the show in protest of the Israeli government. As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, in a note sent to Young months ago but only just shared on Facebook, Waters wrote, "It is time for "Rock Against Racism" to show some of its muscle by refusing to lend our names to the whitewashing of the illegal colonization of Palestinian land and the systematic oppression of its indigenous people."
