As most “Once Upon a Time” fans probably know by now, only a few of the show’s beloved regulars will be returning for next season. ABC chief Channing Dungey said that a new side of these characters will be revealed. Because of a new curse, Hook (Colin O’Donoghue), Rumple (Robert Carlyle) and Regina (Lana Parilla) will take on new identities and will have no memory of whomthey were before.
Dungey sort of implied that the upcoming seventh season of “Once Upon a Time” will serve as a reboot for the series. Aside from having new identities and facing a new curse, the characters will also be living in a new city.
This, too, is evident from the just released synopsis for the new season, which mentioned that "the classic tales are once more twisted and reimagined.” The series has always been known for that. The “Once Upon a Time” Season 7 synopsis also very much echoes of the characters facing their greatest challenge yet. However, the journey to find true love remains the main narrative of the show.
Meanwhile, “Once Upon a Time” spoilers indicate that Hook will feel deep down inside that something is missing or not quite right. O’Donoghue told TV Guide that his character, who will be a uniformed police officer under the new case, will be searching for something and yet he doesn’t realize that he is.
Fans were quick to theorize that it could be Emma (Jennifer Morrison) that he is missing. But EP Eddy Kitsis dismissed the theory just as fast. He revealed that it will be a missing case and not Emma, whose absence will be eventually addressed in “Once Upon a Time” Season 7 according to Spoilers Guide. He also added that Hook’s search will be a brand-new story in the series.
Could it also be that Hook is searching for his true identity and forgotten past? Find out when “Once Upon a Time” returns on a new time slot. It will now air on Fridays starting October 6 on ABC.
