'American Assassin' Movie Shows Dylan O'Brien & Michael Keaton Racing to Stop New World War

In “American Assassin,” Dylan O’Brien plays the lead character Mitch Rapp. As revealed in a new red band trailer, his girlfriend was killed during a sudden terrorist attack on the beach. Mitch vowed to exact revenge on the people who took his girlfriend’s life. This quest for vengeance eventually will lead him to Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton), a veteran of the Cold War.

Mitch is recruited to the CIA and is turned into a killing machine after undergoing training from Stan. There will be a continuing conflict between the two in “American Assassin” as Mitch often disobeys his mentor in killing his targets, EW reported. It seems there is no limit as to how far he will go in avenging his girlfriend’s death.

This, however, makes Mitch the most dangerous among the new recruits in the CIA and the power struggle between him and Stan makes for an interesting point in the film. Aside from Stan and Mitch, the new “American Assassin” trailer introduced the movie’s big villain known only as Ghost (Taylor Kitsch) according to Screen Rant.

When a nuclear weapon ends up with the terrorists, Stan knew that his old student Ghost is behind it. To stop him from using the launch codes that would ignite a new World War, Stan and Mitch work together and will have to race against time. They also have to kill people who need to be killed to accomplish their mission.

“American Assassin” is directed by Michael Cuesta. It is based from a Vince Flynn book bestseller of the same name which is one of 14 novels set in the counterterrorism world of Mitch Rapp. It is due to open in theaters on September 15. Watch the latest trailer of the movie below.
