Canadian electro-funk outfit Chromeo continue their eclectic journey to music dominance by joining forces with singer-songwriter and prolific producer The-Dream for a dreamy brand-new track entitled "Bedroom Calling."
The single is off their upcoming album Head Over Heels, from which they've already released "Juice," along with its corresponding music video. The album, their fifth overall, is their first record since 2014's White Women which debuted at #11 on the Billboard 200.
The-Dream, on the other hand, never seems to be in need of work. He's got a number of notable co-writing credits to his name including on Britney Spears's 2003 mega-hit with Madonna "Me Against The Music," Rihanna's chart-storming "Umbrella," and Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." The-Dream's latest project is the single "It's Yo Birthday." He also contributed an irresistible hook to Ty Dolla $ign's hit track "Love U Better."
Chromeo's collaboration with The-Dream is a natural fit. The duo's electro-funk stylings complement the latter's affection for classic synthesizers. The new track sees Chromeo and The-Dream, whose real name is Terius Nash, exchange woozy verses over an eighties-influenced synth line, which makes for an ethereal, moody concoction.
Although they've only really come to the fore in the past few years, Chromeo has been on the scene since the mid-200s, working away quietly before making a big splash with 2007 release Fancy Footwork, followed by the smash White Women, their first release to hit the charts in the United Kingdom.
The duo has collaborated with DJ Mehdi, on his song "I Am Somebody," toured with indie group Bloc Party in the UK back in 2007, and even teamed up with Daryl Hall of the legendary Hall & Oates for the Live from Daryl's House jam session the following year. Joining forces with The-Dream was a whole other level for them, however.
"We've been obsessed with The-Dream since 'Fast Car' from his first album. To us, he's a modern-day funk auteur, like Prince or El Debarge. This song pays homage to our favorite work of his," said front-man Dave 1 in a press release.
Chromeo's world tour kicks off in Vancouver, Canada on April 3. It includes globetrotting stops at festivals including Primavera, Coachella, and Bonnaroo, as well as stops dotted all over the United States.
