It’s Official: Migos Is The First Rap Group To Stay At No. 1 On Artist 100 Chart For Weeks

Migos is now the first rap group to stay at the number 1 spot of Billboard's Artist 100 chart for more than one week.

The Lawrenceville trio made up of Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff released their newest album, Culture II, a follow-up to 2017's Culture, in January but it is already proving to be a huge success. The launch of the critically lauded new album also debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts last month.

Migos is only one of the two rap groups to reach the top spot of the Artists 100 since it launched in 2014. The other group was A Tribe Called Quest who topped the chart in December 2016.

For the Artists 100 chart, Billboard tracks the artist's activity across all metrics of music consumption which includes album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming, and social media interaction. The publication also reported that a majority of Migos' points come from streaming which accounts for 53 percent of the artist's activities. Album sales account for 28 percent.

Recently, Migos also became the fifth rap group to have more than one album to top Billboard's albums charts. The group also tied with The Beatles for most simultaneous Hot 100 entries from a music group. Thirteen songs from Culture II appeared on the songs charts last month and Migos' involvement in Gucci Mane's "I Get The Bag" marks their 14th appearance on the chart. The Beatles achieved the same feat back in 1964.

In an interview earlier this year, Migos talked about their new album, particularly "Stir Fry" and "MotorSport," both of which became massive hits. For "Stir Fry," the group collaborated with hit-maker Pharrell Williams who produced the track.

"We was in the studio in L.A. and he was in the next room," said Quavo. "We had been running into each other, we've been cool, but he was over there working and he just stepped in because we just walk in everybody's sessions and it's love, and go to work. And he had, like, three or four beats, but the pack was from 2008, like, the old hard drive. He had the old pack. He said he was waiting on this moment. The genie way."

Migos will next be heading to Times Square in New York City to perform on the stage of Saturday Night Live. The show will air on March 3, Saturday, on NBC.
