‘Jeopardy’ Contestants Didn’t Know Who Kendrick Lamar Was

The contestants in Jeopardy have probably heard one or two of Kendrick Lamar's hit singles, but they have no idea who he is.

In a recent episode of the long-running game show, the contestants picked the category "Recent R&B and Hip-Hop Hits," and got a question about Lamar. The host asked, "Hitmaking was in his 'DNA.' He had 'LOYALTY.' He was 'HUMBLE.' & in 'LOVE.' — 'DAMN.'"

For the uninitiated, those are titles of the tracks from the rapper's new album, DAMN.

Who Is Kendrick Lamar?

It is quite a surprise that the contestants did not know Lamar or any of his tracks. The 30-year-old rapper has been releasing singles that made it to the charts for years. He even topped the Billboard 100 twice with "Humble" and "Bad Blood," his collaboration with pop superstar Taylor Swift.

The album DAMN peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in May 2017. His previous works Untitled Unmastered and To Pimp A Butterfly topped the albums charts as well.

Lamar has multiple Grammys under his belt. In this year's awards ceremony, he failed to take home the Album of the Year award, but he won Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Music Video, and Best Rap Album.

Lamar, once again, topped the charts with Black Panther: The Album which offers songs inspired by Marvel's newest box office hit, Black Panther.

More recently, Lamar received a nomination for the 2018 Brit Awards in London. He also received an invitation to perform at the said ceremony. The rapper picked up the award for Best International Male Solo Artist. He triumphed over Beck, DJ Khaled, Drake, and Childish Gambino.

Kendrick Lamar's Brit Awards Performance

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, Lamar performed the tracks "Feel" and "New Freezer." However, he encountered a technical problem right off the bat. Hence, the rapper had to lie on top of a glass box, unmoving for about a minute or two.

When the song began, ITV had to mute majority of the words due to profanity.

Fans, who were watching at home, were not happy. Many were upset that the television network had to censor the rapper. The broadcast was aired late at night in the United Kingdom.

Others were upset that Lamar's collaborator, Rich The Kid, had to smash a sports car onstage.
