Panic! At The Disco, Westboro Baptist Church: Musicians Turn Concert Protest Into Charitable Cause, Donates $20 Per Picketer

Just last week, Music Times reported on the "parody" that the members of the Westboro Baptist Church made of pop-punk band Panic! at the Disco's famed track "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" which was renamed "You Love Sin What A Tragedy." The hatemongers were gearing up to protest the group's show in Kansas City, Missouri, just yesterday (July 20). And while they did just that, it turns out the churchgoers' presence turned out to be rather charitable...

Just before the concert, the guys of Panic! at the Disco tweeted out, "Today @WBCSays is going to picket us. For every member of WBC that actually shows up we will donate $20 to @HRC." They accompanied their tweet with the hashtag #pride2014.

@HRC is the Twitter handle for the Human Rights Campaign.

The Westboro church managed to send out 13 picketers on top of the "myriad of angels" that were also there. Doing the math, the band's donation only amounted to $260. Therefore, they decided to up the number to an even $1000 for the Human Rights Campaign. They also donated 5% of their merch sales from the show to HRC.

Despite the concert being over and their "protest" being turned into a charity drive, the folks of the WBC continued to send hateful messages to the band after the show, including, "@PanicAtTheDisco $1000-pretty lame. How about you donate the ticket price of all your fans who cheered the woman who tried to run us over," referring to this Vine Video.

The group's rant continued Monday morning when they tweeted, "What is this @PanicAtTheDisco tripe? There'll be panic at the second coming of Christ! (Rev. 6:16)," attached with a photograph of the band's singer Brendon Urie with text reading "Repent! or Perish."
