Madonna Looks Back At ‘Best Date Ever’ With Michael Jackson At The 1991 Oscars

In time for the 2018 Oscars this weekend, the Queen of Pop, Madonna, reminisced about the time she attended the award's ceremony with Michael Jackson.

On Instagram, the 59-year-old posted a snap of herself with the late music icon back in 1991 when they were asked to perform the song "Sooner or Later." The song, from the album I'm Breathless, was nominated and won the trophy for Best Original Song. "Sooner or Later" was used in the soundtrack of Warren Beaty's Dick Tracy. (Madonna also starred in the award-winning movie alongside Beaty, Kathy Bates, Dustin Hoffman, Dick Van Dyke, and Al Pacino.)

"Best Date Ever!!!" The singer wrote on the caption.

King And Queen

At the time, the 59-year-old singer explained that inviting Jackson as her date at the Oscars was a spontaneous decision.

"Michael was like, 'Well who are you gonna go with?' I looked at him and said, 'I don't know. You wanna go?' And he said, 'Yeah, that'd be great,'" the "Material Girl" singer recounted. "And then, yes, he took me home. You wanna know what happened after that? I'm not gonna tell you."

She also revealed in an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden's Carpool Karaoke that her friendship with the late music icon was more than just platonic.

"Of course," she said when the show's host asked her if she and Jackson kissed. "I mean, baby, I've been around. Yeah, tongue-in-mouth kissing. I haven't had the chance to talk about it. No one ever asks me."

She revealed that because Jackson was "a little bit shy," she had to make the first move. She also revealed that Jackson had a drink of Chardonnay before their makeout sesh started.

Madonna Complains About Music Camps

Recently, the singer went on to Instagram to criticize the way new pop songs are being manufactured. On a post by Guy Oseary, a talent manager and businessman, celebrating 20 years of Ray of Light, the singer took a jab at songwriting camps.

"Can you help me now please!!!" Madonna commented. "Remember when [I] made records with other artists from beginning to end and I was allowed to be a visionary and not have to go to songwriting camps where [n]o one can sit still for more than 15 minutes..."

Madonna revealed late last year that she is working on a new album, her follow-up to 2015's Rebel Heart.
