Fans and family continue to mourn the death of Chris Cornell one year after his death.
In Honor Of Chris Cornell
On Friday, May 18, the rock icon's wife Vicky and their children Lily, Tony, and Christopher joined dozens of fans at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Together, they celebrated the life and music of the late Audioslave and Soundgarden vocalist and lyricist.
Fans who were present at the gathering reported that people serenaded the musician by singing the Audioslave hits "Like A Stone" and "I Am The Highway." Also, people offered flowers to the grave of the revered singer-songwriter.
Alternative Nation reports that fans also sang "Hallelujah," which, to recall, was performed by one of the rock star's close friends in the industry, Chester Bennington, at his funeral last year. The site notes that the most popular version of the song was recorded by Jeff Buckley, another friend of Cornell.
Ahead of the vigil, Vicky issued a statement to thank fans for the continuous outpouring of love and support for the family a year after the musician's death. On Twitter, she invited them to join the ceremony as part of their "extended family."
"It is with great emotion I reach out to all of you as the one year anniversary of my husband's passing approaches," she wrote. "The children and I are so grateful to you all for being by our sides throughout all of this. Your love has created a close-knit community; more like a family; to grieve with, to provide support, and to help us heal."
Chris Cornell Tribute
At the Rock on the Range music festival in Ohio, Alice in Chains paid tribute to Cornell by covering two songs by Soundgarden during their set.
Ultimate Classic Rock reports that the band performed "Hunted Down," a song from the 1991 album Badmotorfinger and "Boot Camp" from 1996's Down on the Upside at the event. While the band did not explicitly announce the tribute, the lights onstage spelled out "CC" and "SG" while the songs were playing.
It does not come as a surprise to most fans of the two rock acts. Last month, Alice in Chains frontman Jerry Cantrell teamed up with Ann Wilson of Heart to pay tribute to the late rock star at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. They performed "Black Hole Sun" from Cornell and his band's 1994 album Superunknown.
