Houston rap icon Scarface, the co-founder of the Geto Boys, revealed that he tested positive for Covid-19 in an interview with his longtime groupmate Willie D, March 26.
In the live streamed interview on Willie D's channel, Scarface detailed his experience battling the coronavirus, saying that "this whole three weeks has been an ordeal."
He further said that he has been to the point where he felt he was going to die.
The Atlanta rapper also described what it was like at the hospital he stayed at, saying that the rooms did not have toilets and likened it to a jailhouse.
He said that results returned Wednesday evening, around 11:30, after a few weeks of treatment. Scarface continued that it started with pneumonia in both of his lungs and "three or four days later my kidneys fail" He added that later, about "three or four days after that", he was placed under quarantine. He also recalled throwing up so much.
When asked by Willie D what he has been doing now to stay safe, Scarface replied "stay away from everybody", adding that Willie that he can't visit him now before sharing that even his family had to "stay away from each other".
To emphasize to the viewers just how serious coronavirus can be, Willie D asked his collaborator to explain "the type of pressure this thing (Covid-19) has put on [Scarface's] body", taking a swipe to people saying that celebrities are paid to spread fear about the outbreak.
Scarface then detailed how it started with an "itch in my throat", so he called his doctor, who prescribed "Z-pak (Zithromax) and some Prednisone". After taking the meds, his fever "kicks in" the following Thursday, sending him into confinement.
The 49-year-old rapper clarified that he does not spend much time outside stressing that he has not been on any planes or restaurants. He then explained how the experience was worse since he also has asthma. As they exchanged quips about Scarface never lying to Willie D, Scar can be seen coughing on the video.
"People out there thinking that this is a game, you don't wanna play with this". the Geto Boys mainstay said.
Expressing difficulty in "keeping it together," Scarface compared it to his past experiences such as being shot and threatened, noting that he has never felt "in no way shape, form, or fashion like I didn't have control".
"If they're saying something is dangerous, then I rather err on the side of caution", Willie D shared.
Born Brad Terrence Jordan, Scarface is among the founding members of 90s rap group Geto Boys, together with Willie D and the late Bushwick Bill, who passed away June last year. Together they would release hit singles like "Mind Playing Tricks on Me" and certified albums.
Notorious for including controversial and sensitive topics in their tracks, the Geto Boys' would be recognized by About.com as "southern rap pioneers who paved the way for future southern hip-hop acts".
Scarface would soon gain more fame than his bandmates with the release of his album "Mr. Scarface is Back." However, he still stayed with the Geto Boys. Since their lineup in 1989, Scarface is the only member that has never left the group.
