The singer-songwriter took to social media earlier to bring the news of the cancellation of her 2020 shows to her multitude of fans in Europe, Brazil, and the U.S. Swift was scheduled to open her leg in Belgium on June 20, 2020, and will end in the Foxborough, MA. on August 1. On her Twitter account, Swift posted, "I'm so sad I won't be able to see you guys in concert this year." She added, "I know this is the right decision," in reference to the worldwide call to avoid public gatherings to avert the spread of COVID-19. The singer-songwriter showed her deep concern for her fans when she wrote, "Please, please stay healthy and safe." She reiterated the call to commit to the quarantine directive "for the sake of all of us." The "Lover" singer assured she will be back to entertain her fans on stage once it is possible. The call to cancellation comes to no surprise, since the present pandemic situation sadly, has no end that can be seen yet. Numerous shows and worldwide events have been canceled left and right to the detriment of the ticket holders. The official statement from Swift's camp echoed the dire situation and supported the global community's stand in discouraging social gatherings. The statement stressed that the "safety and well-being of fans should always be the top priority." Taking the heed of the health officials to help prevent the exponential spread of the coronavirus, the team had no choice but to "cancel all Taylor Swift live appearances and performances this year." In the U.S. alone, as of press time, a total of more than 700,000 have been infected with COVID-19 and has now 37,000 recorded deaths. It was specified in the statement that the U.S.' "Lover Fest West" and "Lover Fest East," and Brazil shows will be rescheduled in 2021. The dates will be announced later this year. Ticket holders were assured that theirs will be honored on the new show dates. The team offered the option to refund the U.S.shows, which will start to be accommodated on May 1. The process will be subject to terms. The European shows and festivals though had no details yet if these will be moved at later dates. Swift is scheduled to be one of the headliners in several festivals in the U.K., Denmark, Spain, Poland, and France. The Glastonbury festival in the U.K. was earlier canceled last March. The Swifties had mixed reactions with the announcement on Twitter. Many have understood and appreciated the singer's decision, others have expressed their sadness. A very young fan posted a photo of herself with tears streaming on her face. One of her fans tweeted, "I'm sad too." She continued, "I'd rather do the right thing so we can beat this horrible pandemic." And with the aspiration, she said, "See you next year, Taylor! " The European fans though appeared confused if the shows are totally canceled or just postponed. Later tonight at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT, Taylor Swift will be participating in the star-studded "One World: Together at Home" virtual concert to be shown on NBC, ABC, ViacomCBS Networks, and iHeartMedia.
