After six years behind bars, "Conceited" rapper Remy Ma has been released from prison.
According to Hot 97, the former Terror Squad member (born as Reminisce Smith) was released from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women this morning (July 31) at 8 a.m. EST.
Smith was released after serving six years of an eight year sentence for assault charges against Makeda Barnes-Joseph. The two engaged in an argument outside of a Manhattan club in July 2007. Smith claimed Branes-Joseph has stolen $3000 from her and as the two struggled in fight, Barnes-Joseph was shot several times in the stomach, according to an old report from MTV.
Smith was found guilty of two charges of assault in March 2008, with charges of attempted murder, evidence tampering and gang assault being thrown out.
Upon her release, Remy Ma was greeted by her manager, husband Papoose and a pack of other friends and supporters in "fancy cars."
Though she was a rising female rapper before her incarceration six years ago, Ma has since been eclipsed by Nicki Minaj. Though the femcees have previously had plenty of beef with each other (including bizarre dating rumors), Ma has since made up with the "Anaconda" rapper.
"Nicki has always been a supporter and vice versa," she said in a recent interview with Angie Martinez. "I like what she does. She's done wonderful things for females, but I just wish there was more of them. I don't know what they're doing. They're letting these guys take over."
Ma is planning on recording and releasing new music as a free woman. She reportedly wrote consistently while behind bars.
