Carl Reiner, American Comedy Legend and Creator of "Dick Van Dyke Show," Dead at 98

Carl Reiner, who acted in Ocean's Eleven and helped create The Dick Van Dyke Show has died at age 98.

He died on Monday at his home in Beverly Hills of natural causes. The incident was relayed to Variety by his assistant Judy Nagy.

Reiner's other films

Reiner is known to be a prolific writer, directorm, actor, and comedian.

He directed a number of films, including Steve Martin vehicles The Jerk (1979) and All of Me (1984). He also directed classic comedies Oh, God! and The Jerk.

Reiner played conman Saul Bloom in 2001's Ocean's Eleven and its two sequels. He also had a double act with Mel Brooks in the long-running sketch duo, "2000 Year Old Man," which spawned books and an animated TV special.

He is also part of other films The Russians Are Coming (1966). He was also the voice of Carl Reineroceros in Toy Story 4.

In 2017, Reiner, was featured in the HBO documentary "If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast." He was with his longtime friend and comedy partner Mel Brooks, Norman Lear, Kirk Douglas and other nonagenarian Hollywood legends. The show examines the secrets to longevity in a fickle industry.

Reiner's Awards

Throught Reiner's career, he won nine Primetime Emmy Awards, mostly for his work on The Dick Van Dyke Show. He and Brooks also grabbed the Best Comedy Album for The 2000 Year Old Man in the Year 2000 at the 1998 Grammys.

Reiner is the father of filmmaker and activist Rob Reiner.

He kept his social media presence, especially on Twitter up until the last day of his life.
