Earlier this week, Hazel O'Connor was brought to the hospital after suffering a "serious medical event," according to her brother, who has now updated her condition.

In a post to his sister Hazel's Tumblr account on Monday, Neil O'Connor made an "important announcement" regarding his sister.

The article said that Hazel had been discovered unconscious at her residence in the southwestern region of France.

A local hospital decided that she had had a "bleeding in the brain" and that she should be transported to a bigger hospital where her health could be better monitored.

Neil's article went on to say that things were "touch and go," and that the next 24 hours would decide how well she would recover from her ordeal.

Currently, according to a new report from Neil to BBC CWR, Hazel has been exhibiting promising indications of progress and that "everything is pointing to a recovery"; however, it is going to take time."

"We all thought it would be more devastating than it seems to be now," he added, revealing that physicians first believed she would require brain surgery.

But when she was transferred to a larger hospital, experts discovered that the bleeding had stopped altogether.

He went on to say that, after waking up from her coma, his sister has begun to retrain her motor skills, which include swallowing.

According to him, Hazel is already responding to photographs; "she was looking at photographs of her dogs yesterday and smiling, so everything is heading in the right direction."

He described the outpouring of support for his sister as "mind-boggling.

In the same Tumblr post, Neil expressed his gratitude to the public on behalf of the family.

Neil expressed hope that Hazel would be able to read all of the notes herself and witness the reactions that have been received from all around the world.
