The details of the music giant's death is still unknown until now.

Sidney Miller, founder, and publisher of Black Radio Exclusive (BRE), also known as Black Radio Exclusive, died last Thursday in Arlington, Virginia.

Aged 89, Sidney Miller founded and ran BRE magazine for more than 40 years, culminating in an annual conference and other events.

Miller's Roots

The Pensacola native was a graduate of FAMU, Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, and had grown familiar with the East Coast club scene while still being an undergraduate at the university.

Sydney Miller was a musician himself, a talented trumpeter, and he was a pre-med student who needed to earn a livelihood.

His undergraduate colleagues included the Adderley brothers, Cannonball and Nat.

He spent most of his weekends booking them and others he had put together in bands that toured up and down the coast of the United States.

He combined his artistic abilities with sound economic judgment when he joined the military as an officer. While in service, Miller continued his sideline business of performing with and hiring bands and entertainment for the Army.

The legacy

Sidney Miller established one of the earliest black music industry trades, earning him a position in history as a pioneer in the field of black music.

Miller invested his funds and sold his home and car to fund the pursuit of his ambition of founding a journal that would cater mainly to the Black music industry.

Through hard work and dedication, his publication, Black Radio Exclusive (BRE), was able to reach its current position as a leader in the industry.

Under Miller's leadership, BRE has made essential contributions to the advancement of the cause and the importance of Black radio.

Aside from this, it has also contributed to promoting the tremendous influence that Black music artists and Black music have had on the world of contemporary music throughout his tenure.

The BRE founder had already established himself as a marketing pioneer before establishing BRE.

BRE's success was the establishment of the BRE Convention, which has since become a popular industry gathering place.

Thousands of major national and worldwide music professionals attended the yearly event, which has featured performances by artists such as Stevie Wonder, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Tina Turner over the last few decades.
