Many fans are still gushing over Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama after releasing their long-awaited collaboration titled "Beg For You" last week. Some listeners are confused as to why the track sounds heavily familiar; did the two pop stars sample an old track?
According to Nylon Magazine, the song is "nostalgia done right" as the two were able to combine old music, which made fans drawn to its catchy beats and sound.
The two sampled a 2008 dance floor hit titled "Cry For You" by September, which they almost duplicated the exact beats, melody, and hook, but with their own twist. (listen to the track below)
Per the outlet, the original track was also a massive success when it was released. The track is by a Swedish dance artist named Petra Marklund, popularly known as September.
The song amassed listeners throughout Europe, leading it to dominate the charts for 17 non-consecutive weeks.
Her success didn't stop in her home country as it also reached the United States.
Charli XCX previously discussed with Entertainment Weekly that her upcoming album "Crash" wouldn't be "a truthful representation of what it's like to be a female pop artist" without doing an "interpolation" of the song.

This isn't the first time the singer sampled a track in her previous works as she took inspiration from herself back in 2017 for the release of "Pop 2."
Charli's song "Delicious" featured a snippet of her hit 2014 track "Boom Clap."
Today, fans are excited as the English singer/songwriter is set to release her upcoming album this March 2022.
In a statement, Charli noted that she used her "femme fatale powers" and a "multitude of dark spells and curses" to bring the collaborators into her project. (Watch Charli and Rina's official visualizer below)
Aside from Rina Sawayama, some of the artists that will be featured in her album include A.G. Cook, Digital Farm Animals, Christine, and the Queens, Caroline Polacheck, Mike Wise, Oscar Holter, and many more.
Over the past few months, Charli had released two singles, including "New Shapes" in collaboration with Polacheck and Christine and the Queens, as well as her solo "Good Ones."
Her upcoming album "Crash" will be released on March 18, 2022.
