More and more artists are dropping out of the streaming giant, Spotify.

India Arie, R&B and Soul legend is the next one to have her entire music catalog removed at Spotify.

This comes in the heels after Country Music icon Neil Young pulled out his discography on the streaming giant because of COVID-19 misinformation propagated by Joe Rogan on his Spotify-exclusive podcast.

Aside from Neil Young, Joni Mitchell has also joined the picket "in solidarity" with Young. The Canadian songstress has removed her entire catalog on the streaming giant days after her announcement.

"You're Beautiful" hitmaker has also joined the fray, sarcastically commenting that he will release "new music" if Spotify does not remove Joe Rogan.

Rolling Stone reported previously that 270 doctors, healthcare workers, educators, and scientific community members had penned an open letter to Spotify to adopt a misinformation policy for the platform.

After the Joni, it seemed like Young had inspired another huge artist to pull out her catalog in Spotify to support the cause.

Door opened

India Arie stated on Instagram that "Neil Young opened a door" that she must walk through".

Although Arie claimed that she believes in the right to freedom of expression, Joe Rogan's contentious beliefs in the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccines were not the only tipping point for her to pull out on Spotify.

The African-American R&B legend says that it was also the infamous podcaster's "use of words when it comes to race" that bothered her.

Aside from the undertones of racism that Arie pointed out, she has also touched on something that has been a controversial topic for quite some time on the audio streaming platform.

The other cause?

The multi-Grammy Awardee got down to the root of her withdrawal - the unjustifiable pay that artists receive from the platform.

Talking about "respect", India Arie compared how musicians on the platform received "a fraction of a penny" while Rogan received a 100 million dollar contract on his very prominent podcast.

A month ago, rapper T-Pain released a rather controversial set of numbers on his Twitter account. The numbers are allegedly the number of streams an artist must generate before making a dollar.

In addition to his tweet, the rapper added that most artists, especially small ones, do not even get the entire dollar.

T-Pain claimed that his reason for posting the numbers is to inspire other musicians to explore building a streaming service that would benefit them rather than merely accepting the status quo.
