Neil Young has been a hot topic within the music industry over the past few days after he published a now-deleted open letter saying he wanted his music to be removed from Spotify. More recently, it seems like Apple Music took the opportunity to show their love for the rock legend as they made a significant move; what did they do?
According to Billboard, the Swedish-based company's biggest competitor highlighted the musician's catalog and named it "We Love Neil."
The header can be seen within the streaming platform's "Browse" section. The outlet noted that Apple Music's latest move is a "clear dig" at their competitor after it became a topic of controversy over the past week due to the singer's request to remove his music due to Joe Rogan's "misinformation."
On Thursday, many fans urged Spotify users to cancel their subscription from the app as "Delete Spotify" became a trending topic on Twitter.
"Apple Music" also made rounds around the social media platform as many users claim they are switching streaming services after the issue.
"This family is switching to Apple Music," one user wrote.
Neil Young's Issue With Spotify, Joe Rogan
In early reports, Neil Young released a since-deleted open-letter addressing his management team and record label, Warner Music Group, saying he doesn't want his tracks to be on the same platform that caters Joe Rogan's podcast.
In the letter obtained by Rolling Stone, the rocker alleged that Spotify is "spreading fake information about vaccines" and it could potentially cause death to people who believe in their "disinformation."
Young demanded that his management act on the situation "immediately" and keep him updated with their move.
The singer also urged other musicians to do the same.
Spotify then released a statement, saying they regret Young's decision to pull his music out of their streaming service, but they hope to welcome him again in the future.
Young wanted his tracks to be removed from Spotify because of Joe Rogan's podcast titled "The Joe Rogan Experience."
Last month, hundreds of medical experts and educators issued an open letter asking the company to cut their ties with Rogan because he shares "baseless claims" about the vaccine.
The letter, which 270 doctors signed, physicians, and science educators, highlighted how Spotify is responsible for "the spread of misinformation" in its platform.
