Marking his first official performance since the coronavirus pandemic, John Mayer did something responsible that any concert performer should take note of. Mayer stopped his performance temporarily to help one of his audience members who seemed troubled.
In the middle of his classic song "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," Mayer paused the music when he noticed an audience member who seemed to have collapsed.
What did Mayer do?
The distraught fan required medical assistance, to which John Mayer called his organizers in the middle of the performance.
Commanding his team to stop the show, Mayer asked the audience, "Are they conscious?".
Mayer called out from the stage, with his backup members reaching in to help the distressed fan. In effect, the crowd quickly made room for emergency medical personnel to attend to the fan.
"They're conscious. Give me a thumbs-up if they're alert," Mayer asks for confirmation.

Escorting out the distressed fan in a wheelchair, Mayer and his band also exited the stage for roughly five minutes.
As they return, the "Your Body Is A Wonderland" hitmaker announced that the fan was "up and OK, as The system works."
Because of the large crowd crush that happened at Travis Scott's Astroworld music festival in November, which resulted in the deaths of ten concertgoers, musicians have been under increased pressure to keep an eye on audience safety when performing on stage.
With the incident in Los Angeles soon resolved, Mayer continued to perform at the performance, part of SiriusXM and Pandora's Small Stage Series.
What happens next?
Following an introduction by close friend Andy Cohen, who promised that "Johnny Mayer is going to take us home," Mayer played a wide range of hits and songs from "Sob Rock", his most recent album, released in July 2021, before a sold-out audience.
In addition to the concert, Cohen will sit down with Mayer for an interview airing on SiriusXM and Pandora LIVE in conjunction with the performance.
The event has a tenuous connection to the Super Bowl. Mayer joked that, due to licensing and copyright constraints, "they will penalize me a billion dollars if I announce the name of the big game."
