After a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus epidemic, Sir Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar have been booked as headliners for Glastonbury 2022.
Sir Paul McCartney will be joining Friday night headliners Billie Eilish and Diana Ross, two of the most known performers today.
McCartney, who hasn't performed since 2004, will headline the Pyramid Stage on June 25th. Had the pandemic did not happen, the legend would have already performed way back 2020. Taylor Swift was the same - she was invited and she was excited to headline two years ago, but had to politely decline this year. Good thing though, McCartney did not find any reason to say no to the invite. It appears though as if that the organizer Emily Eavis was holding her breathe and felt truly relieved and happy when the Beatles legend finally said yes.
She told BBC, "When he finally confirmed, we were beyond [excited]. For us, having Paul McCartney is obviously a dream, a huge moment in our history. It means the world getting Paul McCartney to Glastonbury."
This year's headliner, Paul McCartney, will be 80 years old when he takes the stage at the world-famous event.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles-based rapper Kendrick Lamar will take the stage on Sunday, June 26th as the night's main attraction.
Other performers include but are not limited to Olivia Rodrigo, Lorde, Megan The Stallion, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Wolf Alice, Charli XCX, Crowded House, Doja Cat, and Haim.
Glastonbury 2022 is a four-day event, starting on Wednesday, June 22 and concluding on Sunday, June 26, this year.
Usually, thousands of festivalgoers will be travelling from around the UK and Europe to see the festival's top bands play on the Pyramid Stage in front of a sold-out crowd.
Taylor originally confirmed her appearance at the Glastonbury Festival 2020 in December 2019, tweeting: "I'm ecstatic to tell you that I'll be headlining Glastonbury on its 50th anniversary - See you there!" But the pandemic certainly ruined plans. She could perform this year too if she only agreed, but fans would have to be disappointed for now.
A headlining spot at Glastonbury is awarded to only the biggest and finest bands and artists. Past headliners have included Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Beyoncé, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Metallica. After two years of absence, the turnout for this festival is expected to be massive.
