Australian Hip-hop rapper Genesis Owusu's concert was halted when the venue's floor cracked and sank in the middle of the performance.

Like any other concert, people dance as much as how others sing along with the music. Most of the time, fans can enjoy doing that as much as the other person next to them.

Well, a concert down under had a little bit too much enjoyment; they literally broke the dance floor.

The collapsed dance floor

Last March 3, during Owusu's gig at the Sydney's Enmore Theatre, its famed Newton Room floors sent people going home as it collapsed.

Reports say that almost a hundred people were dancing on the floor as it collapsed.

Fortunately, no fans were hurt or injured in the accident, as the carpeted flooring provided an extra layer of safety.

Fans in the ballroom described the collapsed dance floor as "a cross between a water bed and a trampoline."

Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that security personnel had directed concertgoers to move at the edges of the dance floor, marking the breach with makeshift barriers.

Building managers have arrived shortly to assess the scope and severity of the damage.

With the security risk, personnel advised Owusu to halt the concert.

He tells people: "There's like a real big drop under that, so this is actually really dangerous. We're going to have to reschedule the show, unfortunately."

After the incident, the rapper turned to social media and pondered on the recent incident, noting that everyone was "safe and in good spirits."

"It was nice to feel for things to feel like it was getting back to normal for a second there," he added.

It was reported that the venue has recently opened after being closed for two years because of the pandemic.

The Sydney Enmore Theatre also went through a major restoration and refurbishment in 2020.

As to why the theatre collapsed, investigations have yet to reveal why.

Owusu racked up awards

Hours before the incident, Owusu had just earned the coveted Australian Music Prize for his debut album "Smiling with No Teeth."

The Australian Music Prize recognizes outstanding homegrown albums in the local music industry.

The 23-year old Canberra native won the prestigious J Award for Australian Album last year.

Owusu also did a massive sweep at the 2022 ARIA Awards recently, bagging the Album of the Year, Best Hip-Hop release, Best Independent Release, and Best Cover Art, all attributed to his recent album.
