John Mayer has been working with his record label for over two decades, and today, he's ready to bid goodbye as he wanted to explore more things, but is there a deeper reason for his departure?
The "Your Body Is a Wonderland" hitmaker shared a statement to his official Instagram account, announcing that he would be leaving Columbia Records by not renewing his existing contract after working with the record giant for over 21 years.
Mayer noted that he had released over eight studio albums and made deeper connections with those he had worked with.
Explaining to his 5.5 million followers, the Dead & Company frontman revealed that he's excited to work with other singers and try to venture out more opportunities in the music industry.
"Hard as it is to say goodbye, I'm excited to pursue new avenues of making music, both of my own and with other artists."
Mayer noted that he "love music more than ever" and believes that some of his best work "still lies ahead."
According to Variety, the singer's representatives said Mayer would not be commenting about his exit to the label anymore.
At the time of this writing, Columbia Records has not publicly addressed the musician's recent announcement online.
Delving deeper into the reason for Mayer's exit, much can be interpreted on his Instagram posts which have now amassed almost 200,000 likes.

Diving down on Mayer's reasons
Currently on a break from his "Sob Rock Tour," fans were shocked by Mayer's very recent announcement about his exit.
According to the outlet, it seems like Mayer wanted to give more time to his current band, Dead and Company, rather than focusing on his solo career, emphasizing his reason for "working with other artists."
In addition, another probable cause of his exit would be he felt taken for granted as more of a catalog rather than an artist.
