Childish Gambino's 'Awaken, My Love!' Made Because of THIS Reason

For most artists, they write their songs either to verbalize their innermost feelings, express an intangible emotion, or just because they want to.

As others may think, Childish Gambino's "Awaken, My Love!" would have originated from a more profound point from the singer's heart or experience.

However, as the recent "The Shop: UNINTERRUPTED" interview reveals, it seemed like Gambino's third studio album was created because of an internal struggle he had to face since then.

Most commonly known as Childish Gambino, Donald Glover recently appeared in the Season Five teaser of the HBO Talk Show "The Shop: UNINTERRUPTED," a LeBron James' produced athlete empowerment brand.

In the snippet of what seemed to be a long conversation, Donald asked NBA Legend LeBron James if he had a time in his life when he tapped into something he internally felt was kind of "bad to win."

He continued to share that he had tapped on that bad thing for quite some time, revealing that he had struggled for being "naturally petty."

Erupting into laughs, Donald proceeded to detail his most significant experience of being "petty" and how his affinity to pettiness has impacted his career.

Glover talked about how his pettiness led him into creating "Awaken, My Love!" just to prove an unnamed critic who had questioned the singer's talent to produce hit smashing music.

Awaken, My Love!

But despite the real reason as to why the album was created, it has been Childish Gambino's highest-charting album, debuting at the Top 5 spot of the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts.

The album, fused with psychedelic soul, funk, and R&B, was produced by Glover, a longtime producer for the stars Ludwig Göransson.

"Awaken, My Love!" did not go unnoticed by the Recording Academy, as it reaped nominations for Album of the Year and the Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 2018 Grammys.

One of its lead singles, "Redbone," also racked up Grammy nods for Record of the Year and Best R&B Song, but it won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance.

The Recording Industry Association of America and Music Canada has certified the album as Platinum, while the British Phonographic Industry and IFPI Denmark gave it a Gold certification.
