After two years of delay due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Songwriters Hall of Fame is finally confirmed, and it's coming in a few months. The annual awards gala is set to induct some of the biggest names in the music industry. Who are they honoring this year?
According to Variety, the 51st annual induction ceremony was in 2020 and last year, but they're back to recognizing the hard work of today's talented artists.
The event will take place on June 16, 2022, at its usual location, the Mariott Marquis, New York Times Square.
Initially, the original date was set for June 10, 2020. Despite the show's schedule changes, the event will honor and induct the same artists they first announced.
Songwriters Mariah Carey is number one on the list, following Annie Lenox and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics.
Other musicians include Ernie Isley, Marvin Isley, O'Kelly Isley, Rudolph Isley, and Chris Isley of the Isley Brothers. Pharell Williams, Chad Hugo, and Steve Miller of the Neptunes. Rick Nowels and William Stevenson.
There will be more significant awards for the night, including the coveted Jonny Mercer Ward, which will be received by master songwriter Paul Williams.
On the other hand, Universal Music Publishing Chairman-CEO Jody Gerson will receive the Abe Olman Publisher Award.
Before the pandemic started, some of the inductees from 2019 were Missy Elliott, Dallas Austin, Tom T. Hall, John Prine, Jack Tempchin, and Yusuf / Cat Stevens.
According to the Songwriters Hall of Fame website, their mission is to celebrate and honor the contributions and legacies of songwriters spanning different genres throughout the music industry.
Fans can explore the full biographies and list on the induction gala's website.
Despite having big award-giving bodies in the industry like the Grammy Awards, American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, and more, the outlet noted that the Songwriters Hall of Fame is the most unique of all.
Aside from inducting iconic musicians into the field, the event will also feature performances from different artists. However, at the time of this writing, there's still no update on who will take the stage in the 2022 event.
Previous performers in 2019 are Justin Timberlake, Sra Bareilles, Dave Matthews, and Bonnie Raitt. In 2018, singers Ariana Grande, Neil Diamond, John Mellencamp, and Usher performed.
