The rapper will still be permitted to attend the Grammy Awards, despite having his performance canceled. "Donda 2" nominations made sure of that. But Kanye being Kanye - will he snub the event, or use it to cause more drama? One can only wait and see.
His performance for the Grammy Awards has been cancelled after all the drama he stirred online, even causing the event's host Trevor Noah to react. However, rapper Kanye West will still be permitted to attend due of his album Donda's nominations, Variety reports.
On March 19, it was revealed that Kanye's concert had been canceled due to "concerning online." Some speculate that Ye's online assaults on The Daily Event presenter Trevor Noah, who will host the award show on April 3rd, were the reason for the cancellation.
Others claimed its his constant attacks of Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson. Some claimed just because he's completely erratic these days.
For the most part, Kanye West's nominations are based on his Donda album, released in 2021. Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song (for "Jail"), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (for "Hurricane") are among his many nominations. He's also nominated for Album of the Year for his work on Lil Nas X's Montero.
Given all these nods, it is only natural and right that the "Runaway" rapper will still be permitted to walk the red carpet and attend both the premiere and main show, according to Variety sources. The show is about music after all.
Will he use the opportunity to attend to cause more drama? Kanye's contentious behaviors on the awards show would not be surprising though - even without all the recent events revolving around his annoyance with ex Kim Kardashian.
The Grammy Awards have had a tumultuous connection with the "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy's" rapper for a long time. Aside from not attending the show since Beyoncé's loss of Album of the Year to Beck in 2015, he also flashed the audience with an obscene gesture while performing.
There's a high chance that he will not attend though despite being allowed to do so. He won't be sitting at home quietly thinking about his actions either.
According to Variety, Yeezy has been rumored to be planning a separate event to take place on the same night as the Grammys. Now that's Kanye truly being Kanye.
After the announcement of his Grammy performance getting cancelled, a source close to Kim revealed to Hollywood Life shared the reality star is not that happy about it. instead, she had "mixed feelings" about the whole thing.
"She doesn't want to see Kanye's career being altered negatively because she wants him to make a living as she knows that he is one of the best when he is on stage and behind the microphone. But she also believes that everyone including Kanye deserves consequences over their behavior," the source said.
