Tom Petty Finally Gets Billboard No. 1; Eric Clapton, 'Guardians of The Galaxy' and 5 Seconds of Summer Perform Strongly

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers have been around for a while but he never gave up, and now he's been rewarded with his first no. 1 debut on the Billboard 200. Hypnotic Eye opened with 131,000 albums sold, making it his highest selling debut since Nielsen Soundscan began tracking numbers. Billboard accounts part of the record's success to an option provided to Petty concertgoers to pick up the album as part of the deal.

Another king of classic rock debuts high on the list as well, as Eric Clapton takes no. 2 with The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale. The album, a tribute to Clapton's longtime friend-and the man who wrote Slowhand's classic "Cocaine"-brought in guest performers like John Mayer and Willie Nelson, and brought in 61,000 in sales in the process. It's Clapton's bestselling album since his last tribute, 2004's Me and Mr. Johnson, a collection of covers of blues legend Robert Johnson.

The new entries continue at no. 3, which belongs to Awesome Mix Vol. 1, an original title for the Guardians of The Galaxy soundtrack. The collection consists of classic pop tunes that are present on a mixtape owned by protagonist Peter Quill.

The first returnee from last week is 5 Seconds of Summer, who sell a strong 54,000 copies of its self-titled debut during its second week on the charts. That group is followed by another teen sensation in Shawn Mendes, who released his first self-titled EP after gathering fans via Vine. His debut moved 48,000 units.

Yes, you're counting right: That was five acts. Which means the soundtrack for Frozen has finally fallen out of the Top 5 for the first time in 32 weeks. Still, there's no shame in 34 straight weeks in the Top 10, and the compilation stayed strong, moving another 33,000 copies last week. Sam Smith also took a bump because of all the new entries and In The Lonely Hour fell to no. 7 with 30,000 in sales.

Two more debuts take the no. 8 and 9 spots, respectively. Theory of A Deadman sold 28,000 copies of its album Savages and Jenny Lewis had her largest solo sales week ever, as her Voyager moved 24,000 copies.

Kidz Bop 26 took the last spot in the Top 10, hanging around for a third week with 20,000 in sales.
