The Foo Fighters are presently on a tour in South America and were slated to perform at Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogotá, Colombia when this very tragic event happened.
Fans naturally cannot believe it and started asking how did Taylor Hawkins die.
"The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins," read the official statement of the group posted on social media. "His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever," it added.
It was confirmed late Friday night by the Bogota municipal administration that the city's emergency services received a call reporting "chest discomfort."
The hotel where the band was staying, the Four Seasons Casa Medina, dispatched ambulances to attend to Hawkins, but "the patient was confirmed dead," according to a tweet from Bogota's Secretary of Health on Saturday.
Antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opiates were among the ten chemicals discovered in Hawkins, according to Colombia's Attorney General.
To keep the public up to date, the Colombian Attorney General's Office has promised to continue its investigation and report its findings promptly.
According to local health officials, EMI's home health care teams had also reacted to the incident in a quite timely manner. The drummer's body was taken from the site.
A team of prosecutors and detectives has been sent to attend the urgent case and help the investigation, according to the Colombian attorney general's office.
Fans and Friends Mourn Death of Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins
About a dozen people gathered outside the hotel where Hawkins' death was discovered on Friday night to pay their respects to the drummer. Many said they were shocked, as no one expected such to happen.
Several musicians and celebrities flocked to social media to pay tribute to Hawkins as word of his passing spread.
Some of the fans light up candles as they stood outside the hotel to mourn Hawkins' death.
Ricardo Rodríguez, a Colombian drummer, shared that he "grew up listening to Foo Fighters and Taylor Hawkins." He added that he's in shock over the passing of a "musician, a composer with a lot of creativity, and a a complete soul."
Upon his death, Taylor Hawkins was married to long-term partner and American illustrator Alison Hawkins. In his passing, he left her and the three children they share.
The couple tied the knot in 2005 and were reportedly residing in Hidden Hills, California.
