The Oscars are officially here, which means celebs will be attending a slew of expensive parties.
One of these events will be hosted by Jay-Z and will take place at the renowned Chateau Marmont.
The location, on the other hand, is generating quite a commotion.
The hotel's employees are boycotting it, citing a toxic work environment that includes "neglectful management" and "unaddressed racial discrimination and sexual misbehavior."
In a report by Page Six, the hotel's staff are being supported by the workers' union, which has scheduled a picket line at 8 p.m. on Sunday with placards featuring celebrities who supported the boycott. Gabrielle Union, Samira Wiley, and Issa Rae are among them.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the union is requesting that Beyoncé Knowles' husband alter the site of the celebration, as others have done since learning of the claims.
Kurt Peterson, co-president of Unite Here Local 11, termed the "N*ggas In Paris" artist "shockingly callous."
"They must reschedule their event and select an afterparty hotspot that treats its employees, particularly Black women, with decency and respect. Jay-Z has an obligation to do better."
Last year, Thomasina Gross, a former hotel events server, filed a complaint alleging racial discrimination, saying she was passed over for higher-paying responsibilities in favor of multiple White hires, whom she was responsible for teaching on new tasks.
She was a huge admirer of Jay-Z and Beyoncé, so working at their celebration year after year was an honor and joy.
She also stated that the power couple made an effort to recognize their efforts and treat them like human beings rather than merely servants.
However, Thomasina is unsure if the couple is aware that something sinister is going on behind closed doors at Chateau Marmont.
"I can't help but assume that if Jay-Z understood how Chateau treats its employees, he wouldn't continue to hold parties there."
After producers were informed of the boycott, Paramount Plus's "The Offer" had already moved its venues when it was supposed to shoot there in August, and "Being the Ricardos" had also canceled its intentions to film at the historic venue.
However, it appears like Jay-Z and his representatives are not shifting venues at this time, as they have not published a comment addressing the boycott.
