"Encanto" hit "We Don't Talk About" Bruno finally debuts its first-ever live performance at the 94th Academy Awards, but fans of the Disney hit are quite surprised with the turnout.
The chart-topping hit finally had its first ever-live performance featuring the original singers and ensemble from the Oscar-winning animated feature.
Penned by "Hamilton" hitmaker Lin Manuel Miranda, "We Don't Talk About Bruno" was one of the many fan favorites from "Encanto," essentially the most prominent out of all the music from the movie.
'We Don't Talk About Bruno' Snubbed from the Oscars?
When the nominees for the Best Original Song for the 94th Academy Awards were announced, fans of the animated musical seemed to be looking for the smash hit.
However, the Sebastian Yatra sung track "Dos Oroguitas" from the film only managed to hit the bill.
Asked why the Oscars did not "talk about Bruno," Hola reported that it was Disney who had decided to submit "Dos Oroguitas" instead since they believed that the "more emotional song" was most likely to win the coveted prize.
Aside from this, Disney had to submit the song weeks before the release of "Encanto," not knowing that "We Don't Talk About Bruno" would be a roaring hit.
Weeks ago, the Academy announced that despite not being nominated, "Bruno" will finally debut its first-ever live performance at the Dolby Theatre at the 2022 Oscars.
Megan Thee Stallion 'Rapped' About 'Bruno' at the Oscars
Introduced non-other than "Bruno" voice actor John Leguizamo himself, the company of "Encanto," including Latino singers Becky G and Luis Fonsi, took to center stage to perform the Billboard chart-topper.
After Carolina Gaitan (Pepa), Mauro Castillo (Felix), and Adassa (Dolores) performed the iconic intro; people were surprised to see and hear Grammy-winner Megan Thee Stallion rap a new verse to the song.
Hottie's rap alluded to this year's Oscars', name-checking the hosts, Zendaya, and even her dream of possibly winning one in the future.
The addition, however, was not quite well received by fans of the already-iconic song.
Netizens on Twitter are confused as to why Megan was added into the mix, some of which were also "disappointed" as they were expecting the full ensemble and cast to perform.
Despite the comments, the "Sweetest Pie" hitmaker celebrated the feat as it was the First Female Rap Performance at the Academy to date.
As of writing, Bruno is the longest-reigning chart-topper for Disney in the US Billboard Hot 100 as it was also Disney's first original song to peak at No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart.
