Phoebe Bridgers is set to make a crucial step on her long-standing legal battle with former producer Chris Nelson.

Phoebe Bridgers Lawsuit Recent Ruling

Court documents reported via Billboard indicates the ruling Judge's agreement with Chris Nelson on having Bridgers produce a deposition.

The deposition is necessary for the Judge to decide whether to dismiss the lawsuit that Nelson filed or not.

"Because the subjective belief of [Bridgers] is critical, the defendant herself is necessarily the primary, if not sole, source of evidence regarding actual malice," Judge Curtis A. Kin stated.

Per Rolling Stone, the ruling came on the heels after Bridgers fought the in-person examination, describing the lawsuit as "nothing more than thinly veiled harassment."

Phoebe Bridgers Libel Lawsuit Explained

The libel lawsuit that the producer filed claims that the "Motion Sickness" singer defamed him after echoing accusations made by other women against him.

Nelson refers to Bridgers' 2020 action where she directed her Instagram followers to a thread made by her friend Emily Bannon, which allegedly contained defamatory material.

Bridgers vocally expressed support for her friend, who had formerly dated Nelson: "I stand in Solidarity with those coming forward with allegations against Chris Nelson."

Because of this, Nelson sued Bridgers for $3.8 million for intentionally using her "high-profile public platform on Instagram to publish false and defamatory statements" against him.

Per Bridgers, she claimed that she witnessed Nelson engaging in "grooming, stealing, violence" other people, which Nelson denied and pointed out that the singer was involved in a "sexual relationship" with Bannon and the thread was created as "part of a vendetta to destroy [his] reputation."

Nelson VS Bannon Lawsuit

Chris Nelson previously sued Bannon for defamation in December 2020.

In her filings, Bannon has indicated that she lived with Nelson throughout their year-long relationship and noticed some habits that disturbed her, prompting her to end the relationship.

Around 2020, Bannon claimed to have been "approached by or put in touch" with others who have claimed to know Nelson and experienced similar conditions.

"Several discussions involved Nelson's abusive and/or criminal behavior and how similar it was from person to person," she penned in an earlier declaration.

This is not the first time Nelson has filed a defamatory lawsuit against another woman.

He accused SNL actress Noel Wells of making "false, defamatory, and misleading" comments against him after the actress allegedly warned indie rock band, Big Thief against working with him in July 2020.

Nelson's lawsuit was dismissed last January 2022, favoring Wells.
