Shawn Mendes isn't in it to put his ex-girlfriend down through song. Not only did he somehow confirmed this single is about his failed relationship with Camila Cabello, he said he got the clearance of his ex. The "Seniorita" singer allegedly authorized the release of the song.

Fans may be startled to learn that Camila Cabello heard an early version of the singer's new single "When You're Gone" before it was officially released.

"Camila heard this song months ago, so we have a really honest relationship," Mendes exclusively told E! News' Erin Lim on the April 1 episode of Daily Pop. "I would never really put a song out about her before she would hear it."

When it comes to songwriting, both he and Cabello have a deep understanding of the power of heartbreak.

"She knows me and I know her, and ultimately, we both are writers and we both know what it is to make music and what the bigger picture of making art is," he shared. "We're supportive of that, always," he added.

Since their split in November 2021, Mendes has had to "learn how to cope without" Cabello in his own manner.

"You've got to give yourself a lot of grace to kind of be a little bit of a mess, and that's okay," he explained of his post-breakup status. "And then, you have to look around at the people who are there and not the people who aren't."

This summer's Wonder World Tour will be all he has left for the artist right now.

According to him, he can only prepare himself so much and things can get really wild. He said peforming for 10 thousand people at least feels quite incomparable.

Getting ready to spend months on the road, Shawn Mendes is looking forward to having his "besties" along for the ride this time.

He remarked that since he's going to be on the road for about two years, he will need certain individuals that he really enjoys and who he feels comfortable around. Otherwise, he'll have a hard time and the whole tour would not work out well.

For his new single's promotion, Mendes used a thirst-trap TikTok, in which the singer jokingly moonwalked shirtless and sang his songs around the house. While smiling, he said: "It's unusual that that gets caught on camera."
