The Billboard Music Awards 2022 nominees are already out, and The Weeknd is leading the awards with an outstanding 17 nominations!
Broadcasted live on Sunday, May 15, 2022, the Billboard Music Awards 2022 will be held where the GRAMMYs took place last Sunday, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Billboard Music Awards 2022 Top Nominees
Abel Tesfaye, more commonly known as The Weeknd, received a total of 17 nominations for his collaborative work with Ariana Grande, "Save Your Tears (Remix)," bagging six nods.
Doja Cat came in second place as she snagged 14 nominations, including her smash album "Planet Her," which is nominated for Top Billboard 200 Album.
GRAMMY winners Olivia Rodrigo, Kanye West, and Justin Bieber tied for third place as the hitmakers all received 13 nominations each.
Drake trails at the fourth spot with 11 nominations, while British superstars Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran close the fifth spot with 9 nominations.
The Kid LAROI is up for eight, while Taylor Swift, GIVEON, and BTS, who's also in Vegas, are up for 7 awards each.
Notably, Kanye West's "DONDA" mainly was nominated in the Gospel category as it was one of the genres the album was classified.

Billboard Music Awards By The Numbers
As of writing, it is Drake who holds the most number of Billboard Music Awards, with a total of 29 awards. With his 11 nominations this year, it is highly likely that he could set the bar even higher.
However, Justin Bieber, who has 21 awards, can overtake him after May 15; so does The Weeknd, who has 19, and Taylor Swift, who bags 25.
Currently, The Billboard Music Awards 2022 is composed of 62 categories. Among the 62, five of them are new.

The inaugural Top Viral Song category nominates Doja Cat and SZA's recently GRAMMY-awarded "Kiss Me More," Gayles' "Abcdefu", Glass Animals' "Heat Waves," Masked Wolf "Astronaut In The Ocean," and Walker Hayes' "Fancy Like."
Aside from this, awards honouring Global acts have also been added.
Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Weeknd will be vying for Top Billboard Global 200 Artist.
While BTS, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Olivia Rodrigo, and The Weeknd compete for the Top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.) Artist award.
Dua Lipa's "Levitating" and Olivia Rodrigo's "good 4 u" are nominated for Top Billboard Global 200 Song.
Meanwhile, BTS' "Butter" and Lil Nas X's "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" are among the nominees for Top Billboard Global (Excl. U.S.) Song.
Ed Sheeran's "Bad Habits," The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber's "Stay," The Weeknd & Ariana Grande's "Save Your Tears" are both nominated in the same Global song categories.
