In the premiere broadcast of the new season of Britain's Got Talent, a competitor dazzled the audience and viewers at home with a scene straight out of some Hollywood feel-good movie.
Loren Allred entered the stage and promptly informed Simon Cowell and the other judges that she was the original singer of "Never Enough." Many know that it is one of the most popular songs on "The Greatest Showman's" soundtrack.
She revealed that producers of the 2017 successful film hired her to record a demo track before actress Rebecca Ferguson, who played Jenny Lind, suggested Allred sing the actual vocals, which she would mimic for the film.
In effect, not only did she reveal she had a blessed voice that should be given more opportunity to belt out tunes, she also outed the fact that the actress was not the one who was singing on the movie. Cowell specifically pointed this out.
Cowell replied: "So you sang one of the biggest songs of all time. You've revealed it wasn't the actress who sang the song in the movie - it was you singing that song."
But what is so bad about telling the truth? Nothing, especially since Allred showed exactly what she got after that revelation.
When Cowell inquired as to why she had not previously received a lucrative recording deal, Allred responded, "I was more comfortable singing behind the scenes, but I kind of feel like the song was meant for me and now I'm ready to put a face to the song."
The musician is acknowledged on the film's soundtrack though, which debuted at number one in the United Kingdom and throughout the world. She even performed it live on PBS "An Intimate Evening with David Foster"
She had signed a deal with Island Def Jam Music when she was merely a teenager, and competed on "The Voice" in 2012, but was working as a barista when producers from "The Greatest Showman" approached her.
Judge Loren was awarded the coveted golden buzzer, which automatically advances performers to the semi-finals, after she wowed the judges with her performance/ Loren added that her face will be unfamiliar to viewers. even if her voice was already heard globally.
However, fans flocked to Twitter to point out that Loren, who collaborated with Michael Bublé on the song Help Me Make it Through the Night in 2019, already had a successful music career.
JackAVFC77 tweeted: "No point watching #Bgt anymore, she was absolutely sensational, and will surely win it." And @allieakalulu66 commented: "She was excellent but surely that's unfair, she sang one of the biggest songs in one of the biggest films, may as well get Adele to audition."
