Mac Miller's drug dealer received more than 10 years of prison sentence years after the rising rapper's tragic death.
One of three men, Ryan Michael Reavis, who was charged after Miller's fatal overdose, was sentenced to 11 years in prison on Monday in federal court in Los Angeles. He said that he was the middle man during the transaction and that he had no idea about the counterfeit oxycodone pills that he gave to his fellow dealer were laced with fentanyl.
Miller got the pills two days before his death, per KTLA.
Mac Miller's Drug Dealer Sentenced
As confirmed by Rolling Stone, Reavis asked to have five years in custody. However, the final sentence was 10 years and 11 months. It was more than what the probation officials wanted but less than what the prosecutors sought.
US District Judge Otis D. Wright II imposed the prison sentence after the prosecutors shared a heartbreaking statement that Miller's mother, Karen Meyers, penned.
In the letter, she said that her life "went dark" when the rising rapper - whose real name was Malcolm James McCormick -- passed away.
"Malcolm was my person, more than a son. We had a bond and kinship that was deep and special and irreplaceable. We spoke nearly every day about everything - his life, plans, music, dreams," the statement said. "He would never knowingly take a pill with fentanyl, ever. He wanted to live and was excited about the future. The hole in my heart will always be there."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is 100 times stronger than morphine. It is also 50 times more potent than heroin. Unfortunately, even 2 milligrams of it can already claim a person's life.
Miller died in 2018 after taking the painkiller, and his death was ruled an accidental overdose due to a combination of fentanyl, alcohol, and cocaine.
The County of Los Angeles medical examiner said at that time that the rapper was found unresponsive in his home in Studio City. Authorities responded to the scene but pronounced him dead on the spot.
He was only 26 years old at the time of his death. In the years before his untimely passing, he opened up about his mental health and addiction, as well as the negative effects of his break-up with Ariana Grande.
