The Weeknd has become the highest-paid Coachella headliner in history.

Kanye West dropped out of his alleged performance, for which he was allegedly paid $8.5 million. The Weeknd, on the other hand, now has the money.

Though Ye has yet to explain why he dropped out of the schedule, he threatened to pull out of the festival in February unless fellow headliner Billie Eilish apologized to Travis Scott for a joke that the award-winning rapper misinterpreted as a dig.

On Sunday, the "Starboy" hitmaker even paid tribute to the "Donda" rapper, playing his line from their single "Hurricane."

The Weeknd also performed "Party Monster," "Earned It," "Privilege," "Or Nah," "Save Your Tears," "Heartless," and "Out of Time" throughout his performance.

"It took a long time, but we're here here - we made it," he said, referring to his late arrival to the roster, stating, "Coachella! I'm always available to you. "Don't worry, I've got your back."

How Much Do Coachella Headliners Get Paid?

Every Coachella weekend, about 100,000 people converge to Indo Valley, generating a lot of money.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Coachella and Stagecoach generated $704 million in economic activity in 2016, while the event made $114.6 million the following year.

Needless to say, performers may make a lot of money for their performances.

Here are some Coachella headliners from the last several years, along with how much they were paid to perform.

Eminem

In 2018, Eminem appeared onstage during the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival Weekend, for which he was allegedly paid $1 million.

Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, and Radiohead

According to The New Yorker, the trio got between three and four million dollars for headlining in 2017.

Beyonce

According to Billboard, Beyonce was paid $4 million to play at the Coachella Festival in 2018.

Fans were outraged when they learned that the Queen Bee received a pittance in comparison to The Weeknd, who was also headlining and earned $8 million.

Ariana Grande

According to The Blast, Ariana Grande was paid $8 million for the high-profile role in 2019. Prior to The Weeknd, she was the highest-paid Coachella performer in history, as well as the youngest.

During her performance, the "Thank U Next" hitmaker invited on stage notable guests such as NSYNC, Nicki Minaj, and Diddy.
