Camila Cabello spoke candidly about her mental health difficulties in an Apple Music 1 interview with Zane Lowe.

The 27-year-old admitted that her anxiety kept her from "functioning" when she was working on her latest album, "Familia."

She shared that for months, she avoided the studio and going to therapy. While she did not say she was on the verge of quitting, she was at the point of "physically incapable of functioning." She said she felt incapable of working. But fortunately for her, she discovered a therapist whose words struck a deep chord with her.

The healing journey that she was put on required her to say, even in her own studio, that she would not do something that feels no longer enjoyable. She cannot accept her music becoming a source of tension or stress.

She also became candid about what she really needed or wanted to become functional again. In not so exact words, she shared that she was desperate for, whether it materialized in front of her in the studio or not, was connection and recognition.

She revealed isolation can be a double-edged sword for someone with mental health issue.

"It really came down to, outside of being an artist, what we're all looking for, which is connection with other people. And I think sometimes mental health stuff can make you isolate, and then that isolation makes your mental health a lot worse. And it's kind of like this vicious cycle," she added.

Camilla's mental health has substantially improved recently.

The artist is said to be in a so much better place than she have ever been in terms of anxiety and mental health right now.

Camilla described the album-making process of "Familia" as life-changing.

She said she did not feel the same way for any of her past albums. For her, it must be because she now associates doing music as a source of fun and joy, and not just work. She's eager to be in the studio constantly, unlike in the past. She's even okay with sharing her true feelings about a lot of things, including her emotions about ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes.

One of the reasons probably as to why she's in high spirits lately is her friendship with Selena Gomez. Out of the blue, the two seemed to have become fast and best friends.

They constantly show love on social media. Just recently, Selena Gomez took to TikTok to promote Camila Cabello's new album Familia. In the clip, the two pop stars are seen having a casual girls night in, drinks in hand as they lip synch a classic exchange by the Lifetime reality series' OG stars Christi Lukasiak and Kelly Hyland. It was fun to watch them giggling with glee.
