Singer Nick Cave's son, Jethro Lazenby, has died. He was only 31.
Cave, once again, heartbreakingly announced the death of one of his sons through a statement.
"With much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away. We would be grateful for family privacy at this time," Cave said, as quoted by Today.
The "Into My Arms" hitmaker did not disclose Jethro Lazenby's cause of death. However, it is worth noting that his passing occurred after struggling with schizophrenia and substance use disorder. It remains unknown whether he took his own life or if foul play was involved.
His representative, Sean Ghattas, told The Independent last month that his mental health issue affected Lazenby's judgment.
Lazenby's death happened days after he was released on bail after confessing that he attacked his mother last month. Upon his release from a Melbourne jail, the judge ordered him not to contact his mother for two years and receive substance abuse treatment.
He was still due to appear before the court on June 29 for his sentencing over several charges, including assault and theft. He was put behind bars in 2018 after attacking his girlfriend.
The Guardian noted that he lived in Australia after meeting Cave for the first time when he was 8 years old.
"To my eternal regret, I didn't make much contact with Jethro in the early years, but I now have a great relationship with him," the singer went on.
Nick Cave's Son Arthur Died After Tragic Event
Jethro Lazenby's death occurred years after Cave also lost his then-teenage son, Arthur Cave.
The 15-year-old purportedly passed after falling off a cliff in Brighton, England. Initial reports by investigators revealed that his death was not being treated as suspicious.
"Members of the public carried out first aid on the boy before he was taken to the Royal Sussex county hospital, Brighton, just after 6 p.m. He later died there of his injuries. The death is being dealt with by the coroner's officer," a spokesperson for the Sussex police said at that time.
Arthur was found with life-threatening injuries he sustained after falling 60 feet off the cliff. He was airlifted but later died due to the severity of his case.
Before his passing, he and his twin brother, Earl Cave, notably appeared in the quasi-documentary "20,000 Days on Earth."
