Jennifer Hudson is telling you that she's not going anywhere as she is poised to accomplish a feat that only a few people in the entertainment industry have achieved.
Recently, the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League have released the list of the nominees for the 75th annual Tony Awards.
Jennifer Hudson Gets Tony Nom But Not As a Featured Actress
Although Jennifer Hudson was not nominated for a performing role, the musical she is producing received a major nod from the league.
"A Strange Loop" dominates the nominee list as it bagged 11 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Score, Best Actor in a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical, Best Actress in a Musical, along with five production nods.
Hudson is already at EGO as she is only missing a Tony award. She first checked off the Oscars in 2006 after winning Best Supporting Actress for "Dreamgirls," which was also her feature film debut.
Unknown to many, the American Idol alum also bagged an Emmy for producing the animated short, "Baby Yaga," which was awarded Best Interactive Media for a Daytime Program at the Daytime Emmys in 2021.
She also sealed a Best R&B Album at the GRAMMYS in 2009 for her self-titled debut album and another one in 2017 for "The Color Purple" as the Best Musical Theatre Album.
While fans thought that her Broadway debut in "The Color Purple" could finally seal the Tony that she rightfully deserved, she was snubbed at the 70th Annual Tony Awards for playing Shrug Avery.
Fans of the beloved musical were dismayed by the snub as "The Color Purple" won Best Revival of a Musical. In contrast, her co-stars Cynthia Erivo won Best Actress in a Musical, and Danielle Brooks was nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
Nevertheless, this year's awards might be Hudson's time. Should Jennifer win, she will join the likes of EGOT Artists John Legend, Whoopi Goldberg, and Scott Rudin, who claimed Tonys for non-performing roles.
'A Strange Loop' Predicted To Win Big at Tony Awards 2022
Gold Derby predicts that "A Strange Loop" will take home the Best Musical Award. The musical tops the bill with the most predictions on their racetrack odds compared to the eight other nominees.
The production also bagged the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2020 before it premiered on Broadway.
The 75th Tony Awards will air Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount Plus.
