Did Neil Patrick Harris disrespect Amy WInehouse to this extent? Why?

Neil Patrick Harris is being criticized by social media watchdogs over a photo he shared 11 years ago that just reappeared online and stunned followers all over again. Why did it resurface after so long in the first place?

BuzzFeed alleged that a photograph shot at his Halloween party in 2011 shows a dish titled "The Corpse of Amy Winehouse." The photo, which was deleted immediately after it was posted by Justin Mikita, depicted a Winehouse doppelganger who appeared bloody and mutilated.

The "Rehab" singer passed away at the age of 27 just three months before Halloween.

The ill-advised dish from the 48-year-old "How I Met Your Mother" star's party went viral after writer Ashley Reed tweeted about it on Tuesday.

"I cannot believe how many very online people over the age of 25 are just now finding out about Neil Patrick Harris's disgusting Amy Winehouse cake," the tweet from Reed, who has since switched her account to private, read. It's unclear what her intentions were when she sought to remind the public of what Harris did.

Regardless that she already switched her account to private, many have read her statements. She did NOT merely make one tweet, after all. Also, those who read what she said quickly made her posts viral.

"Yea Neil Patrick Harris quite literally had a cake mimicking Amy Winehouse's corpse for Halloween soon after she died. I've loathed that man ever since," her second tweet read.

Fans were disgusted by the resurfaced images and expressed their feelings on Twitter. Users on a Reddit sub for the mysterious gossip blogger Deuxmoi discussed Harris' party foul after the incident was posted there.

Some said they all lost their "respect" for the actor at this point.

"Society is way overdue for a discussion about the way Amy Winehouse was treated in the early 2000s and 2010s by the misogynistic celebrity media machine and the people who were a captive audience to it. Neil Patrick Harris' f - - ked up corpse cake is just the tip of the iceberg," one lamented.

Many followed suit, questioning not just what happened to Amy Winehouse to be treated that way to wondering what got into Neil Patrick Harris because his behavior could be described as, to say the least, disturbing, disrespectful, and disgusting. Some said the post have turned their off from watching any of the actor's projects, including a "Series of Unfortunate Events" on Netflix.
