Since his death, last February 2022, artists both from the United States and the United Kingdom have expressed their condolences to the late Music giant.
With his cultural impact, it is undeniable that his then-small contributions have become his lasting legacy after he passed away.
Jamal Edwards, who founded the multifaceted music platform SBTV in 2006, has birthed a long line of then emerging artists into full-blown worldwide sensations.
The 31-year-old music executive is the first ever posthumous recipient of the Music Industry Trusts Award. The award will be given to Edward's family this coming Nov. 7, 2022, at an exclusive gala ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
"It is very humbling for the family to be accepting this award on behalf of our beloved Jamal and we are delighted to have the MITS highlight the Jamal Edwards Self Belief Trust alongside The Brit Trust and Nordoff Robbins," Brenda Edwards, Jamal's mother, said in a statement. Jamal's estate mounted his trust foundation in an effort to honor his contribution and continue his lasting legacy in the music industry.
Ed Sheeran, who first emerged in the music scene through Jamal's SBTV, commented on the feat.
"Jamal changed my life. He played such a huge part in shaping the trajectory of my career as well, but I would not be where I am now without him. Jamal's sharp knowledge, unwavering optimism and willingness to help others whatever the cost meant he changed the lives and careers of so many, not just people in music, and there's no-one more deserving of a MITS Award recognising his place in this industry," the "Shape of You" hitmaker said. Jamal Edwards' untimely death struck the British community last February 2022. The late music giant passed away due to a sudden cardiac arrest. SBTV helped boosted the careers of Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, and Clean Bandit, among many others.
