Steven Tyler is said to have entered into a recovery center following a relapse.
Aerosmith published a joint statement on Tuesday explaining that, after working on his sobriety for years, their vocalist relapsed after suffering from foot surgery in preparation for their gigs, and pain treatment was required during the process.
Tyler has entered a treatment facility to focus on his rehabilitation and health, according to the release, which means the band's June and July residency dates in Las Vegas are canceled.
Tyler's sobriety has lasted over a decade; is his support system sick of him relapsing?
Steven Tyler, according to a close friend who talked to Hollywood Life, has a vast and powerful support system that will help him get through this.
RJ Holguin, a long-time friend of the "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" singer who has known him for over 15 years, stated, "Steven Tyler is an incredible man who continuously gives back to the recovery community, and he has utilized his platform to assist so many people over the years."
"At the end of the day, Steven is a human being," they said.
"He has a solid support system, yet every support system might face difficulties. Everyone's path is unique. Everyone admires him for making the decision to seek assistance."
He also mentioned that the "Living on the Edge" singer has been quite kind in giving back to the recovery community.
In fact, Tyler allegedly stopped into Holguin's store, My 12 Step Store - an LA-based recovery merchandise company - on his route to perform with the band at the Hollywood Bowl in 2007.
"He was really proud of his sobriety and was quite vocal about it," the store owner remarked.
"I requested him to create and autograph a t-shirt for me. He sketched a growing plant and wrote on it, 'One Day at A Time, Luv Steven Tyler.'"
"With his agreement, we put his artwork into a postcard and have contributed the earnings to local rehabs for the past 15 years," Holguin continued.
What Will Happen to Aerosmith's Residency in Las Vegas?
Though the June and July dates have already been canceled, Aerosmith has said that the 2022 dates would be continued beginning in September and that the itinerary will be updated as soon as possible.
Aerosmith also expressed their sadness and apologized for inconveniencing their "most devoted fans," but they thanked them for their patience.
Fans who purchased tickets for the June and July gigs will be refunded, and other fans expressed their support for Steven Tyler in the announcement's comments area.
