The White House will be welcoming one of the biggest boy bands in the world next week! President Joe Biden is meeting South Korean superstars BTS in The White House next Tuesday to talk about some important topics.
But aside from their flashy performances and chart-topping hits, the global sensation is also known for its philanthropic and humanitarian efforts.
And this time, the leader of the Free World is meeting the global sensation to discuss some important advocacies that the band has deep roots with.
BTS Meets With President Joe Biden at The White House To Discuss THIS
A press statement that The White House released said that the Korean supergroup is invited to The White House to discuss Anti-Asian Hate Crimes and celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month.
More specifically, Biden and BTS will be meeting to discuss Asian inclusion and representation, as well as the uptick of hate crimes and growing discrimination in the country over the past years.
In the effort of the administration to celebrate the Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Month until its last day on May 31, 2022, Biden has decided that BTS has the perfect platform to amplify the advocacy of the White House.
"President Biden and BTS will also discuss the importance of diversity and inclusion and BTS' platform as youth ambassadors who spread a message of hope and positivity across the world," the statement reads.
This meeting is an extension of Biden's commitment to combating the surge of anti-Asian hate crimes.
Last May 2021, Biden signed the "COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act" last May 2021, providing law enforcement with enough resources to identify, investigate, and report hate crimes - this ensures that hate crimes information is more accessible to both Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities.
Aside from the new law, the White House also lauded the passage of legislation that seeks to establish a commission intended to study the possible creation of a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture.
Biden has previously invited singer Olivia Rodrigo to the White House, but not about AANHPI causes (although Rodrigo is half-Filipino) this is to help the government convince the youth to become vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.
