After almost 30 years together, Lighthouse Family has separated. This begs the question, "Are Tunde Baiyewu and Paul Tucker feuding?"
The 53-year-old pair, composed of Tunde Baiyewu and keyboardist Paul Tucker, formed in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1993, went on to score hits worldwide. Some of the most notable songs are "Lifted," "High," and "Ocean Drive."
Paul posted on the band's official Instagram account to inform fans that Tunde is leaving the group to pursue solo endeavors. This means the band has to split, after three decades of glorious performances and songs together.
Paul, who was scheduled to perform alongside Tunde at the Mouth of Tyne Festival in Tynemouth in July, wrote, "I'm so sad to let you know that after almost thirty years we have reached the end of our Lighthouse Family journey. Having set off from our little basement studio in Newcastle in 1993 it's been an incredible adventure beyond our wildest dreams. Thank you all for all your love and support through the years, we could not have done it without you."
He added that their anticipated performance on the July festival has to be cancelled as a result of this unanticipated event too.
"I'm so sorry that this means that our headline show at Mouth Of The Tyne Festival on 9th July is now cancelled. I have tried everything with our agents and promoters over the last few weeks to make this work but we just couldn't get it over the line. Tunde now wants to focus on his solo career and I wish him all the best. I would like to say sorry to the promoters and to all of you who have tickets for this show and have waited through the last two years. I was really looking forward to this hometown show and playing our songs in this amazing place close to the lighthouses that gave us our name. I am as disappointed as you are. It breaks my heart to let you down," he wrote lengthily.
The Mouth of the Tyne Festival, which takes place this year from July 8 to 10, is organized by North Tyneside Council with assistance from EQUANS, BBC Radio Newcastle, and Port of Tyneside.
While this breakup is unfortunate, the festival had to quickly find a replacement headliner.
Festival organizers informed attendees via social media that a new headliner is being booked for Saturday night and that refunds are available upon request.
On the remaining nights of the three-day event in Tynemouth, Keane, Eliza Shaddad, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Newton Faulkner are scheduled to perform.
North Tyneside Council, the event's organizer, stated that ticket holders might receive refunds.
Since 2005, more than 100,000 people have attended the Mouth of the Tyne Festival, which was canceled for the past two years due to the pandemic.
