After having "a funeral" for her pop music career," Demi Lovato released "Skin Of My Teeth" on June 9, which belongs to the genre of rock. Demi Lovato was completely gritty and brutally honest, which are trademarks of rock music. Lovato was particularly real about her near death experience.
After hinting a return to their pop-punk and rock roots, Demi released a new song from their upcoming album, "HOLY FVCK."
The song's lyrics bring fans to 2018, the year when Demi Lovato was simply out of it and was struggling with her addiction.
"I'm alive by the skin of my teeth," they sing in the chorus. "I survived but it got harder to breathe." At one point, they also flat-out said that she felt lucky to be alive after the heartbreak.
"I can't believe I'm not dead" they sing.
Demi initially declared their transition from pop to rock in an Instagram post on January 20. They captioned the photo of her seated with music executives from Island Records and their manager Scooter Braun, "A funeral for my pop music."
They also shared an Instagram Story of the execs telling Demi that they can "put out whatever music you want, whenever you want to. Break the rules."
Demi shared two snippets of a rock song, which included them singing along to heavy guitar riffs. "Yeah, you're pushing me to the edge/ Prod me, lie to me, ungodly things have been sent/ Here are your tickets to the freak show baby, sci-fi, watch the freak go crazy."
"I would say a new age has begun. Demi told Rolling Stone with regard to the said funeral she gave to their pop career, and her new direction, "I am constantly evolving and changing."
They shared that they prefer to leave the rest of their music in the past. And then, with a clean slate, they want to begin anew in this new period for their upcoming album.
When announcing "HOLY FVCK," they said, "the process of crafting this album has been the most satisfying yet, and I'm grateful to my fans and partners for being on this trip with me. I have never been more confident in myself and my music, and this album speaks for itself. Thank you to my Lovatics who have been rocking out with me since the beginning, as well as those who are just now joining us. This is your record."
