Girls Aloud certainly proved Louis Walsh wrong.
The 69-year-old music entrepreneur was handed the girl group to coach for the 2002 talent show in which they competed against a boy band.
Walsh stated on the White Wine Question Time podcast that he believes all girls in groups desire to be the leader and that can lead to a disaster.
While ostensibly pouring dig at Cheryl, who was formerly married to soccer superstar Ashley Cole, he stated that they "all want to date the footballer."
"I was convinced I was going to get a boy band," he told host Kate Thornton. "And they gave me the girls. I didn't want them. Girls don't like each other in bands - it's very very simple."
"They all want to be the lead girl," Walsh, renowned for managing boy bands such as Westlife and Boyzone, said.
"They all want to go out with the footballer. They all want to be the skinniest," he added.
While his experience meant he knew what he was saying the band certainly showed him.
Girls Aloud, composed of Cheryl, the late Sarah Harding, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle, and Nicola Roberts, fortunately had a significant impact.
Their debut single Sound Of The Underground soared to the top of the charts, and they went on to enjoy a brilliant career with a run of major successes such as Jump and No Good Advice.
Meanwhile, One True Voice struggled to achieve mainstream success.
They released a few songs before to disbanding in 2003.
Moreover, Cheryl went on to achieve significant success as a solo artist.
Her first two albums debuted at No. 1 in the United Kingdom, while her third and fourth also debuted in the Top 10.
Also, she has had five No. 1 singles.
Unfortunately, Sara Harding passed away in 2021 due to breast cancer and the remaining band members are thinking of having a one-off reunion in her memory.
It would be the first time that the remaining four founding members of the group - Nadine, Cheryl Cole, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh, would perform once more as a group if pushes through.
Any money from the reunion would be used to purchase cancer-diagnosis technology, allowing potential sufferers to be treated sooner, as revealed to OK magazine [via Official Charts].
